…And this was around the time where I was finally just like, you know what, screw it, I’m just gonna just be 100 percent just me and write about that…
Mickey Guyton on what led her to write the song, Different.
Country Music singer Mickey Guyton is finally getting her time to shine. She recently released her first studio album Remember Her Name. She has been on this path to stardom for about 10 years now and although she clearly has the vocals, she has been stymied to some degree because she is a Black woman in country music. The industry really began to take notice of her talents early in her career with the release of Better Than You Left Me. In light of the killing of George Floyd, she released the song Black Like Me, which she wrote in 2019. The song is her highest charting to date, peaking at No. 27 on the adult contemporary charts. Mickey talked with the Radio BOSS Donal Ware about her career, the album, race in the country music industry, and about being a sports fan. Download or listen to the conversation.
